Back-to-School Word Search Circle

A relaxed first-week activity that builds community while students find school words and share their favourites.

Learning outcomes

  • Recognise common school vocabulary
  • Share personal likes in a safe circle
  • Build positive routines with classmates

What you need

  • Printed School-theme word searches
  • A sticky note per student

Puzzle tools used

All tools are free, with no sign-up, and every sheet can be printed with an answer key.

Step by step

  1. Create a School-theme word search with 8 words (Easy or Medium) and print one for each student.
  2. Students find the words independently while you move around and greet each one by name.
  3. Gather in a circle. Each student picks a found word and finishes the sentence: This word makes me think of...
  4. Students add the word to a sticky note and place it on a class wall titled Our Year.
  5. Optional extra: finish with a School-theme Memory Match game on the board.
